The Postgraduate Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management helps you build on your existing skills and knowledge whilst focusing on strategic issues in business development, rather than operational issues. It will equip you with higher level academic skills that you will be able to apply in a vocational context in the hospitality and tourism sectors. It will also provide you with the knowledge you need to be able to successfully undertake senior responsibilities. As such, this course is ideal for both recent graduates as well as experienced professionals. It is also suitable for graduates in other academic fields who are looking to move into the hospitality and tourism sectors.

What you will learn on the programme

The PgD in Hospitality and Tourism Management aims to provide you with a systematic understanding and critical awareness of current problems and new insights. You will learn how to deal with complex issues in a systematic but creative way; to develop good decision-making skills - even when you may not have a complete range of data available - and how to communicate your decisions and conclusions clearly. The course will broaden your awareness of and expertise in the hospitality and tourism fields and equip you with a blend of the communication and business skills necessary to meet the requirements of the challenging world of business management.

Looking to the Future

On successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management, students can embark on a further period of study to attain an MSc in Tourism and Hospitality awarded by the University of Sunderland or, alternatively, develop or move on to careers in the hospitality and tourism sectors.

  3. Hospitality and Tourism Strategic Planning
    Plus one of the two following options
  4. Managing Hospitality and Tourism Projects
  5. Research Methods for Hospitality and Tourism Managers

Minimum Entry Requirements

  • An Undergraduate Degree
    OR
  • At least three years work experience in the hospitality and/or tourism sector at supervisory level or above.
    PLUS
  • IELTS 6.0 for non-native English speakers Recognised equivalents of the above qualifications are acceptable
