I’ve been a teacher for 13 years, teaching English
and Russian in grammar schools. Now I live in Germany
where I’m studying a degree in Business English,
English and Russian. After graduating I hope to teach
in Germany or back in Russia. I came to Oxford House to
because I’m keen to continuously learn and develop.
Principally I wanted to refresh my speaking skills and
learn some new methods, skills and techniques.
I really liked the course. The content is good and I
appreciated the feedback I received. We learnt useful
techniques for teaching with handouts, neuro-linguistic
programming, kinaesthetics and audio-visual equipment.
Not only do you learn from the teacher but also the other
students as you are in a group with fellow teachers from
around the world. It was great to expand our knowledge
by exchanging ideas and sharing experiences with each
other.
Class activities included how to teach grammar structures,
using exercises and with the lexical approach. You learn
about how to build rapport with students and keep them
motivated and involved. We also learned how to make classes
entertaining using music and games. We were introduced
to useful advanced techniques for teaching students at
the higher levels.
As well as time in our training class we spent time observing
other teachers at Oxford House. This is a great way to
learn as you can see the dynamics of a real class.
I’ve visited many cities in the world but London
is easily my favourite. Its great, great, great! It’s
beautiful, historical and with so much to do and see like
Tower Bridge and Westminster Abbey.
