I work in Turkey as a Materials Engineer. For my job
a good knowledge of English is very important as we collaborate
with engineers from other countries. Therefore I chose
to do an English course at Oxford House College. I’m
also working part-time here which is another great way
to improve your English. One day I’d like to find
an engineering job in the UK as I really like the country.
I think Oxford House is the best low cost college in
London. I’ve benefited from different teaching styles
and techniques. Faye is good at improving our speaking
whilst Caroline is brilliant for listening exercises.
Sean has helped my grammar and Emma my pronunciation.
Together we’ve learned English by a combination
of group work, role play, games and social activities
which have made it great fun too. As a bonus I am now
able to recognise many accents in English as my teachers
come from different parts of the UK as well as the USA
and Australia.
At the college we have use of some great facilities.
There is free internet for all students. The coffee bar
is not expensive with nice food and friendly staff. The
library is amazing. I’ve visited other colleges
but Oxford House definitely has the best library. I like
to go there to watch films, read books and sometimes practice
my grammar.
The college social programme is good fun and not expensive.
It’s a great opportunity to mix with the teachers,
other students and learn about English culture in a relaxed
way. We go to the pub, discos, have picnics in the park
and do guided museum visits etc. Once we went to watch
Arsenal football club play – it was fantastic!
When I first arrived it wasn’t easy to adapt to
a new country but the teachers and reception staff at
Oxford House College were so friendly and helpful that
I soon felt at home.
London is a wonderful city – you can always find
something to do here. It’s busy and cosmopolitan.
You can eat food from around the world and have a totally
different experience every time you go out. The transport
system is fast, comprehensive and easy to use making it
possible to make the most of the whole city. |
